    This project involved a complete interior renovation and the addition of a second floor. Adding an upper level gave us the opportunity to open up the stairway to make it the feature of the entryway.

    These photos are taken from the same spot. Having a special focus at the end of the hallway adds elegance. Replacing solid walls with columns resting on low walls creates an orderly rhythm.

    In the family room, the fireplace is now flanked by tall cabinets that enclose the audio and television systems. The cabinetry and the room both look better with taller proportions.

    The new living room features a carved limestone fireplace, layered rice paper on the walls, and a coffered ceiling.

    In the previous kitchen, the cabinets were too short for the nine foot ceilings. The island was too cramped with only three feet between countertops.

    The master bathroom previously had vanities with opposing mirrors, which created an uncomfortable infinity effect.
